MarketWatch: “Why did Facebook lose an estimated 15 million users in the past two years?”

Excerpt from MarketWatch quoting DataTrek:

…. “Facebook has faced withering scrutiny over user privacy concerns, including the 2018 revelation that the British data firm Cambridge Analytica may have improperly harvested up to 87 million Facebook users’ personal data. CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday pledged to build a “privacy-focused” platform going forward, grounded in principles like private interactions, encryption, secure data storage and safety.

Despite the heightened focus on privacy, users’ primary motivation for ditching the site appears to be their own happiness. Market-research firm Datatrek Research found last year that Google searches for “delete Facebook” were 97% correlated with searches for terms like “being happy” and “quotes about being happy”….
